A present from Santa?
"A man who has intense confidence cannot be lonely."
I used to imagine, when I was younger, what it would take to be truly happy. What I mean is that, if you take away the video games, the comics, the sports, Mum's fasoolia, what would be left?
I used to imagine that I would have to be floating out in the middle of space in order to be totally free of 'everything' in order to discover the 'secrets of real happiness'.
Basically, just me and nothing else. Could that be enough, just me?
I'm very happy to have recognised that quote.

Quick question - what is that confidence predicated on? When you answer that, you'll realise why you will always be dependent on something other than yourself.

I would say that it's because one isn't 'dependant' on something else that one becomes truly confident.
I would also say that there is a difference between usage and dependance.
It's probably within that difference that one will find the meaning of confidence.

Your confidence in that statement is dependant on your belief that it is the truth.
Your belief is dependant on the factors that lead you to come to that conclusion.
and so it goes...there's always something.

Does being 'dependant' on something mean the same as recognising something as being of assistance?
Now we are getting into the realm of philosophy, which is something that I have been trying to avoid.
Philosophy now reminds me of materialism.
That's something that I don't want to, uhm, rely on...

Are you sure philosophy is something you don't want to get into?

I have always found the phrase "quick question," to be a prelude to some form of agression and rarely an actual question.
Mr. K clearly believes that he already knows the answers. He does not.
He further implies that there is weakness in being dependent upon something outside the self.
I imagine Mr. K breathes oxygen, which would make him an oxygen junkie, unless of course, Mr. K produces oxygen on his own.

hahahahaha
anyway - just to clarify: -
1. Incorreect, I don't recall there being any implication that dependance equates to weakness. The explication was that it is not possible to be devoid of dependance. Take from that what you will but try not to attribute your thoughts/comments to me - thanks.
2. Incorrect, I might know the answers to the questions - depends on what those "questions" are.
3. Correct, I guess that does make me an oxygen junkie - good to see you got something right.
hahaha - who is this "anonymous"? - post your name damn it!
