Gorillas in the Mist

I was reading through one of Soke's books a moment ago and this line seemed to stand out for me.

"Although there are no preordained rules for these codes, the key elements are dotted throughout the space."

As it stands, where can this quote take you?

...to the realisation that there is a natural order of things and the pursuit of awareness, as opposed to mere adherence to some superficial authority, is the only path to a deeper understanding of that order.

From there you can go anywhere.

Sounds like a nice segue from your previous post.

It seems reasonable to believe in the value of being able to 'go anywhere'. I wonder though if we are aware of the possibility of destinations available to us.

Hatsumi-sensei is always talking about the 'next one' and he often references Chaplin in this context. Apparently someone asked Chaplin what his best movie was and Chaplin replied, "The next one."

An inability or refusal to go on to the next one reminds me, to a certain extent, of a caged animal in one of those industrial revolution period zoos. Humans are also animals, lest we forget and materialism in thought seems to extend deep into our psyche.
