This reminds me of the first twenty years and the second twenty years of a person's life.
The first stage is learning the 'basics'. The rules, manners, protocols, what's right and what's not etc.
The next stage is real life. The hard knocks, etc
You'll often see people who have the mentality of, 'this is how it SHOULD be'. I think those people are stuck in the first stage.
Obviously, the people who break the rules all of the time because, that's 'the way it is' and 'if I don't, someone else will' have never left the second stage.
It would be good, me thinks, to be able to find a balance between the two. That would mean then, that life would really start at 40...
Maturity goes a long way towards solving many problems of 'good & evil'. From what I've come to see and experience, those problems really do just 'disappear'.
I think that maybe what passes as evil is a combination of immaturity, intelligence and capability.
This doesn't mean that you have to accept it, but Obi-wan said it best, "There are alternatives to fighting".
(It was either an Obi-wan quote or "Rwaargh!")
By the way, happiness seems to be a good indicator of maturity. Just be careful not to confuse self-indulgence for happiness.
